Seachem HydroTote [Review]

Seachem HydroTote
I recently bought three Seachem HydroTotes from Drs. Foster and Smith. They are 5 gallon "jugs" for storing and transporting water.

Do you have bins, buckets, and jugs cluttering up your house? Well, the HydroTote is a space saver. It is marketed as being able to fold up into the size of a t-shirt, but this is actually somewhat difficult. However, it stacks (sideways) easily and you only need a couple. I am now down to 2 medium bins, 2 small bins, and 3 HydroTotes. I used to have 2 large bins, 4 medium bins, and 5 small bins. As you can see, despite not folding, the HydroTote is a major space saver.

When full, the HydroTote holds 5 gallons. That's 41-pounds. It is quite hard to pour water out of a 41 pound, flexible jug without spilling. What you can do, however, move the water into bins before pouring. You do this until the HydroTote is about halfway full. Then, you can pour it with relative ease. Even though you may have to drain it out, the HydroTote still saves a ton of time because it eliminates having to carry multiple open-topped bins across the house. The HydroTote also greatly reduces spillage as it comes with a cap. It usually takes me ~45 minutes for a water change in my 29 gallon, but it only takes ~20 minutes with HydroTote (excluding dechlorination time).

Overall, I find the Seachem HydroTote to be a very useful and indispensable product for saving both time and space, even though some of the features that it was marketed for need improvement.

★★★★★ (5/5 stars)

Well, what are you waiting for? You can buy one HydroTote for about 10 USD online. Here is Seachem's page on their HydroTote.
